Slow Terminal Start Time

For some reason, and I don't recall when this started, when I opened Terminal.app in Mac OS X, it took 2-8 seconds for the prompt to show... I played with all the settings on the planet, with no luck. Much searching later, I found this fix:

Delete the /var/log/asl folder... and done!

TextMate Compatibility Fix in Snow Leopard

Speaking of TextMate again, if you want to use the arrow keys to navigate to beginning and end of lines (and who doesn't), then you need to install the Snow Leopard compatibility plugin as outlined in this ticket.

Apple Ships 2 Operating Systems, Still no TextMate 2.0

I am going to say it like I feel it: "TextMate is really, really ticking me off".

Four years ago, TextMate was innovative, flashy (as text editors get), and ahead of its time. Today, some of those things still hold true, however, Allan's inability to ship TextMate 2 is really irritating. What happened to the pragmatic programmer?

TextMate is lacking in some very basic areas: Find/Replace in Project, and Undo to name a few things. I've lived with and loved TextMate for years hoping that the next update will fix these issues... Instead, Allan (Odgaard, TextMate's author) has chosen to rewrite TextMate 2 from scratch! Talk about irresponsible. TextMate is the ultimate insult to the consumer. It completely disregards basic needs in favour of a silly pursuit of "perfection".

TextMate 2.0 better be free upgrade, because I, for one, am not willing to pay a cent for it.

Please follow me on twitter? No, You will follow me

Saw this wonderful piece: http://dustincurtis.com/you_should_follow_me_on_twitter.html

Apparently it's better to use forceful language to encourage people to follow you on twitter. So:

You will follow me on twitter, here.

Mercurial TextMate Bundle

We are switching to Mercurial as our new SCM system at Hot or Not and no SCM switch is complete with the appropriate TextMate bundle. Luckily there was already a TextMate bundle available from the Macromates SVN repository (I know, ironic!). The bundle, however, was missing a few features in the commit dialog which I have now added and making publicly available through the forked Hg repository on bitbucket:

hg clone http://bitbucket.org/mazdak/textmate-mercurial-bundle/

Enjoy

Hot or Not Facebook App

Great news! (and it’s about time ...) We’ve totally redesigned the HOT or NOT Facebook App.

Nor more lame graphics. No more uncertainty as to what to do and how to do it. We have made it super easy and clear how to rate people, get rated and meet hotties on Facebook. Plus, you can search for people locally too.

So, check it out now And, don’t forget to invite your friends to join you in all the fun.

Enjoy. Have fun.

Hot News!

Hello friends,

I am happy to say that as of last week, I have accepted a position as the Engineering lead at Hot or Not. This is a really exciting opportunity to work on an iconic (albeit a bit eccentric) brand with millions of users.

What makes this even more exciting is that as of last night, we launched our brand new iPhone app on the Apple (iTunes) App Store. If you have an iPod Touch or an iPhone, feel free to grab a copy.

Thanks,
Mazdak

p.s. Don't ask me to hook you up with free accounts ;)
